Meeting in Ararat

Meeting in Ararat

Within the project COVID-19: Civil Society Resilience and Sustainability “Green Armenia” Environmental Educational NGO implemented a training-discussion on February 19 in town Ararat on the topic of Environmental Protection and Human Rights: Situation with Underground Water in Ararat Region. The speaker was environmental lawyer Arthur Grigoryan who presented the situation of underground water in circumstances of climate change. He talked about human impact on underground waters in Ararat region and the environmental and social outcomes. Arthur Grigoryan’s report was based on the results of a joint expert study implemented in joint collaboration between international organizations and Armenia’s respective state bodies. Considering the priorities of having drinking and irrigation water, the risks of fish farms were discussed, since it is specifically these farms which are mostly depleting these underground water resources.

Apart from this scientific research possible solutions were discussed too. Participants were local youth who were sharing their ideas of responsible use of water.

More on the meeting can be read in the articles prepared by Ecolur (Eng) and Aliq Media (Arm).
